REVENGE OR REDEMPTION (PART DEUX)

The first set of predictions weren’t that bad, so I’ve decided to make a few more in this week’s SOCCER MANIA edition.  Who knew the Ref would take Arsenal out of the game so badly on a terrible call???  Would you or I be able to hear a whistle over the screams of 95000 hyped up fans in the Camp Nou while running full speed?  Neither did Robin Van Persie, and it cost him another yellow card in the match.  We all love and hate that two yellows = red.  Tough luck Gunners, but the show must go on.  However, I did make three out of four predictions correctly including Shahktar, Tottenham, and Schalke.  So how you like me now?

On to this week’s continued round of March madness knockouts…. It’ll be an interesting story….but somebody’s gotta go.  REVENGE OR REDEMPTION CONTINUES….

Bayern Munich vs. Inter Milan

In leg two of a rematch of last year’s championship final, we have two teams hungry for hardware.  While its highly unlikely(near impossible) that Bayern will have a chance to repeat as champions in Germany, they still however will compete at their best in today’s match.   Mario Gomez proved to be up to the task as zee Germans stole one with a late goal in their last contest.  But I can see the indomitable lion approaching on the horizon.  Coming off a two goal performance this weekend, Samuel Eto’o will prove to be too much to handle.  The Italian side will prevail in a stunning performance by Inter, sending Bayern crashing out of the champions league.  REDEMPTION CLAIMED as Inter prove they are still fit to compete for all tittles available…  3-2 Inter in Munich.  Victory of the road warrior.

Manchester United vs. Olympique Marseille

This is a tough one to call.  Manchester United will seek to return home as the victorious defenders of Old Trafford.  Earning a 0-0 draw in the first leg, if Sir Alex is looking to style for the fans, then he will most assuredly play Chicarito (a young spark plug) and Wayne Rooney will look to shine in front of the home side.  While Man U have only scored 7 goals in the tournament all season, they have all come from a different player.  But Marseille is no slouch. The French Champion boast a lineup of speed and disciplined attacking.  This will be a tough game, but in a 1-1 draw, Marseille will advance on away goals.  REVENGE of the French, especially for Marseille, having only won once in is history on English soil, a 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield in 2007…

Real Madrid vs. Olympique Lyonnais

Lightning never strikes twice…..or does it?  Although Ronaldo is returning from injury and should be fit for this game for Los Blancos, a stiff and tactical Lyon team is the same team that eliminated Real Madrid from last year’s Champion’s League tournament.  Having drawn 1-1 in the first leg, Real Madrid will look to protect itself from conceding an important away goal.  This maniac believes that Jose is no different from Pelegrini (Real Madrid’s coach from last year), and that being said, we will soon see Mourinho exit the tournament in the same way.  No revenge this year, 1-1 draw, Lyonnais win on penalty shots.  REDEMPTION to tough team that again has the opportunity to go for the glory…

Chelsea vs. Copenhagen

In the head scratcher of the week, and I know many wont side with me on this one, and I could quite possibly be out of my mind, but just for the sake of controversy (c’mon Maniacs)  I’m taking COPENHAGEN (that’s right, I said it)  over a lackluster/ complacent team in Chelsea.  That’s right, the underdog side will grit its ferocious teeth, bear down, and steal one from the Blues.  REVENGE is a dish best served by an underdog who was never given a chance….  3-0 Copenhagen.  (don’t bet on it though)

Let me hear from you…

-PHANTOM, the elusive…..
